Take a tour round Kampong Lorong Buangkok, where time stands still
Village character, Roland: “This is the very last kampong in Singapore! After this, boh liao... Everything will be gone. The younger generation will never know what is a kampong.”

Take a tour round Kampong Lorong Buangkok, where time stands still

The A List recently brought you a fresh look at the new types of guided tour being incubated and funded by the Singapore Tourism Board and the National Arts Council. They bring together tour guide operators and arts practitioners to develop fun, engaging experiences for tourists and local residents.

We focused on the first of this new breed of tour, SOMEWHERE IN TIME – a walking tour like no other. Now comes Memories of Kampong Lorong Buangkok, which combines the expertise and talents of art company GroundZ-0 and tour company Let’s Go Tour to bring Lorong Buangkok – the last remaining village in Singapore aside from the little settlement on Pulau Ubin – to life.

This fusion of walking tour and theatrical performance invites you to enter a magical little world where time has stood still, where you will meet characters who recount memories and stories from the village, inspired by real-life encounters with kampong dwellers.

Roland leads a tour group around the kampong, identifying local flora and fauna.

Roland, a long-time resident of Kampong Lorong Buangkok, takes you to explore local flora and fauna. Then meet Rosnah and listen as she shares the ups and downs of her daily life in the village. Sooner or later there will be an appearance by songstress Lily, who will serenade you with a few pop classics and regale you with her stories.

All these characters are played by trained performers: Roland by singer, actor and host Sugie Phua; Rosnah by expert tour guide and actress Dani Isnin; and Lily by multidisciplinary artist Wendy Toh.

Get down to PCN North East Riverine Loop on 26 Dec at 1.30pm or 5pm to meet the village people and discover how they live in the moment and appreciate the little things in life.
