Online creative workshops for kids 4-16 by Singapore Book Council

Looking for workshops to keep your young ones learning and entertained at home? The Singapore Book Council is conducting five online children’s workshops for ages 4 – 16 this week. Led by SingLit authors and creatives, your young ones can look forward to illustration, writing, poetry and storytelling sessions.

 


Writing Pictures and Drawing Words with Darel Seow
Suitable for ages 7-12
Date: 20 May
Times: Session 1: 10.30am – 11.30am (SGT), Session 2: 4.30pm – 5.30pm (SGT)

This illustration workshop invites participants to create their own stories visually through images. Together with a series of quick-fire illustration exercises, they will craft narratives and create illustrations inspired by their personal interests as well as what they see around them.

 


Design Your Own Comic Book Character! with Zaki Ragman
Suitable for ages 13-16

Learn how to create a comic character and discover key elements to consider when creating your own character in this hands-on workshop.

 


Story Craft with Nek Selampit
Suitable for ages 4-8
Date: 22 May
Time: 10.30am – 11.30am (SGT)

Join Nek Selampit for a telling of Pak Belang and His Reflection, a fable from the Kancil series for the young audiences to enjoy! Attendees can join in chants and refrains throughout the telling and be guided by Nek Selampit to create their very own popsicle tiger puppet for keeps.

 


Pictures and Poetry, Assemble! with Loh Guan Liang
Suitable for ages 13-16
Date: 22 May
Time: 2pm – 3.30pm (SGT)

Embark on a journey of meaning-making and poetry writing! In this workshop, participants will be introduced to ekphrastic poetry through a series of fun, guided writing exercises, as well as a discussion of selected ekphrastic poems and song lyrics. Using Photographs as Writing Prompts with Sim Ee Waun **Fully subscribed**

In writing nonfiction stories, authors often use photographs for research and for writing inspiration. This workshop teaches you to do the same by bringing your stories and characters alive using a photographic prompt.
