NAC sets up Arts and Culture Nodes all over Singapore

NAC sets up Arts and Culture Nodes all over Singapore

An island-wide network of Arts and Culture Nodes is being developed by the National Arts Council (NAC), making it easy and convenient for all Singaporeans and residents to experience and participate in the arts in their neighbourhood.

NAC joined forces with community partners and volunteers to develop a programme of inclusive cultural events, being mindful to create distinct identities for each Node that reflect the ambience and particular histories of different areas. Every node is a touchpoint where communities can encounter the arts in public spaces near them.

Node_Botanic Gardens arts and culture

Singapore Botanic Gardens… As Singapore’s only UNESCO World Heritage Site, Singapore Botanic Gardens (Arts@SBG) is something of a flagship Node. It regularly hosts art installations around its manicured grounds and, at the iconic Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage, the well-loved NAC-ExxonMobil Concert in the Garden series which anchors an eclectic programme of musical and artistic performances throughout the year. Follow Singapore Botanic Gardens on Facebook for updates on events, exhibitions, festivals and more.

Node_Jurong Lake Gardens arts and culture

Jurong Lake Gardens… Singapore’s only heartland national garden, Jurong Lake Gardens (Arts@JLG), hosts a series of traditional arts performances during the Mid-Autumn Festival, as well as the BIG Green Carnival which celebrates sustainable gardening and environmentally conscious ways of living.

Node_Gardens By The Bay arts and culture

Gardens by the Bay… Many people still think of Gardens by the Bay primarily as a tourist attraction. By making it an Arts and Culture Node, NAC hopes it will instead be perceived as a national garden with spectacular horticultural attractions for residents to own, enjoy and cherish. Bring your family and friends to experience performances by emerging and established Singaporean artists and arts groups throughout the year.

Node_Hortpark arts and culture

HortPark… Singapore’s one-stop gardening resource hub (Arts@HortPark) will now bring you arts activities and programmes such as mural painting, live performances, visual arts exhibitions, and workshops conducted by local artists.

Node_Tampines Library arts and culture

Jurong, Tampines, and Woodlands Regional Libraries… NAC has been gearing up to make these public spaces destinations for art and music lovers as well as bibliophiles for a while. It aims to make regional libraries an integral part of the annual Silver Arts festival and welcomes Singapore Art Museum’s (SAM) Mini Mobile Museum [pictured] as it takes pop-up exhibitions out to the heartlands.

Jurong, Tampines, and Woodlands Regional Libraries are now designated Arts and Culture Nodes, so look out for curated arts programmes for youths and young adults on artseen, and enjoy workshops, sharing sessions by artists, and live performances for the whole family.

Node_SCAPE arts and culture

*SCAPE… A known art and culture spot dedicated to enterprising youths, *SCAPE now gets full NAC backing as an Arts and Culture Node, meaning that crowd favourites like Music Day Out and the Dance Talent Development Programme will be augmented by many more cultural happenings, live performances, and art installations going forward.

Node_Republic Poly arts and culture

Republic Polytechnic… An educational institute by day, Republic Polytechnic also serves as an arts touchpoint in the north. The Republic Cultural Centre at Republic Polytechnic presents a rich calendar of events throughout the year. Programmes feature established artists in a broad range of art forms and genres including Momentum Dance Festival, IGNITE! Music Festival and the Reflections Arts Festival.

Node_SAFRA Toa Payoh arts and culture

SAFRA Toa Payoh / SAFRA Punggol / SAFRA Yishun… There is something for everyone at the three SAFRA Arts and Culture Nodes. Head to SAFRA Punggol, SAFRA Toa Payoh and SAFRA Yishun (ARTS@SAFRA) for regular community art projects, children’s theatre, music performances and art installations.

Right now, at SAFRA Yishun, there is an art installation of dreamcatchers by Didier Ng augmented by an online workshop teaching locals how to make their own symbol of pursuing dreams.

Node_Downtown East arts and culture

Downtown East… At Arts@Downtown East, you can look forward to a full calendar of arts programming for families and youths during major festivities and holidays. Check out the Downtown East website to stay updated on the latest events.

Node_Our Tampines Hub arts and culture

Our Tampines Hub… Having made solid steps in turning itself into a venue for public arts in the east (hosting Muhammad Udzi’s Nothing Gold Can Stay until 31 Mar, for example) Our Tampines Hub is now a designated Arts and Culture Node by NAC, so expect the quantity and diversity of events, installations, and inclusive art projects to expand.

Node_Wisma Geylang Serai arts and culture

Wisma Geylang Serai… A culturally distinct focal point for the arts and heritage of Nusantara Malay culture, Wisma Geylang Serai stages Malay arts and cultural programmes that are inclusive and open to people from all backgrounds.

Highlights include weekend arts programmes throughout the month of Ramadan, activities around Malay Language Month and Gala Laga, the annual Malay Youth Music Festival.

Node_Bedok CC arts and culture

Bedok CC…  Bringing traditional arts to seniors and families in Bedok is something Bedok CC has become known for. But now, as one of Singapore’s Arts and Culture Nodes, it will broaden its appeal to engage even more people. Its quarterly Kaleidoscope Chinese Culture Appreciation Series and Sunday morning traditional arts performances continue.

Node_Kallang CC arts and culture

Kallang CC… A collaboration with NAC since 2012 has driven the success of the Kallang ArtsTreats festival at Kallang CC. The space is also known for its multi-cultural programming. You can look forward to more art displays, performances, and inclusive cultural events now that Kallang CC has been selected as an Arts and Culture Node.

Node_Siglap South arts and culture

Siglap South CC… At Arts By The Sea, there will be a richer, busier calendar of arts and multi-cultural performing arts events featuring professional artists and arts groups. There will also be an increased effort in encouraging residents to engage through community programming.

Node_Taman Jurong CC arts and culture

Taman Jurong CC… Singapore’s visual arts town displays public artworks co-created by professional artists and residents which visitors can enjoy on a self-guided trail. Pick up a brochure at Taman Jurong CC and walk the trail to explore works ranging from street art murals to 3D sculptures.

Taman Jurong CC is set to expand and broaden its arts programme now that it is an Arts and Culture Node.

Node_Pasir Ris arts and culture

Pasir Ris Elias CC… Arts@Pasir Ris already offers quarterly music performances, the annual family-friendly Music@Elias concert and the annual Rollin’ Good Times extravaganza. Now that it is an NAC Arts and Culture Node, the cultural programme at Paris Ris Elias CC will be expanded.
