IGNITE! Music Festival 2022: Celebrating 15 years of uninterrupted good, local beats
The esteemed IGNITE! Music Festival is just around the corner and this year, it returns to a live audience after two years of virtual performances due to the pandemic. Organised by Republic Polytechnic (RP), this year’s edition marks its 15th anniversary as a youth-run music festival known for discovering promising talent in the local music scene.
Held from 29 to 30 Jul at The Republic Cultural Centre, the event will feature 14 local acts across a diverse range of genres – including indie-rock, dream-pop, R&B and hip hop.
Since its inception in 2008, IGNITE! has been an annual springboard for local independent musicians. It persisted through the pandemic, largely in part due to the resourceful students who switched gears and organised live streams of performances by ABANGSAPAU, Hijack Hayley, Iman’s League, and more.
In this year’s edition, the public can look forward to the final band auditions held on 22 Jul at RP’s South Agora Hall. The crowned winner will be the final puzzle piece in the festival’s Day 1 line-up, which currently includes The New Modern Lights, Space Walk, Marian Carmel, Feez, and Shigga Shay.
Day 2 of the music festival features an equally eclectic mix: LAYYI, Rangga Jones, Daniel Sid, Saints Amongst Sinners, Cadence, Tell Lie Vision, Bakers In Space, and M1LDL1FE.
Be sure to watch out for this year’s anniversary special – the IGNITE! Tribute event – featuring RP’s very own Jammerz Arena, Rhapsody, and Beats Encore, whose collaborative performance will honour the acts that have been a part of IGNITE! over the years.
