The World of Teochew Music 潮州音乐的世界 by Gildon Choo and Bright Ong

Experience traditional Teochew music from a different perspective in this staging of “The World of Teochew Music”. Peep into the miniature puppet peepshow boxes to understand the various stories that the music pieces were written after, where the excerpts of original Teochew songs are used as soundtracks. Through this combination of Teochew traditional music with puppetry, the performances form a “new-old” way of storytelling that we hope will appeal to our audiences.

This exhibition will offer viewers a deconstruction of the show’s contents, and explain the thoughts and ideas behind the creative processes in creating this show. Come explore “The World of Teochew Music” in a different light!

This programme was first staged at the National Arts Council’s Arts in Your Neighbourhood 2019 and performed by the musicians of Nam Hwa Teochew Music Ensemble.
